istartedthefire records is an independent label based in Cheltenham, England. Owned and operated by Jim Lockey of Solemn Sun istf continues to develop its own brand of engaging music amidst a roster of honest and hardworking artists.
Previously home to one of the strongest folk rosters in the UK istf has now spread its wings into the wide world of musical genres intending to deliver honest and passionate recordings from artists we love. Releases from the likes of Boat to Row, Midnight Mile, Joe Summers and JL&tSS have seen the label grow over its 5 year lifespan into the small town powerhouse it is today, receiving accolades and airplay from independent blogs and national radio stations alike.
Opting for a DIY approach to creating and establishing records has always been a passion of Jim's and any spare moment away from touring with his band is spent holed up in a tiny office packing and sending orders, making promo CD's, writing press releases and designing merchandise; its a labour of love but certainly one that he hopes will help to be a springboard for bands that he believes should be paid more attention to and enjoyed for years to come.
